YOGA ETIQUETTE
Please be on time. Arriving a few minutes early gives you the opportunity to stretch a little, unwind, visit the bathroom or change your clothes. If you arrive late, wait quietly in the vestibule until the instructor motions for you to come in.
Please sign in for class each time. A small notebook is on the counter as you enter, sign your name. We will take care of entering the date of your class on your class card. By signing each time, if any error is made on your card, changes can be made easily.
Please remove your shoes in the vestibule. You may keep your socks on when you enter, you will be asked to remove them by the instructor depending on the poses for the class. If you have concerns about removing your socks or shoes due to a foot issue, please speak with an instructor.
Please let your teacher know of any injuries you may have. New students are asked to fill out a personal profile listing any former injuries or illnesses. This is so we may better understand how to help you in your practice or to modify poses as necessary. Before each class the teacher may ask for any injuries, if you do not wish to speak up then, please see the instructor before class. Your information is not shared with anyone, we do not share any mailing or contact information. You will only be emailed or phoned if a class is cancelled for any reason, unless you choose to be on a newsletter list.
Respect yourself and others. Please respect how you are feeling each day and respect others if they need extra assistance in a class due to an injury. You may come to class with injuries or minor illnesses as long as you feel able, students have often reported they feel better after class. Respect the props, please put them away neatly, as you found them.
Let go of any expectations for your practice. Let go of any competitive feelings. Do not compare yourself to others in class, each student arrives with her/his own set of limitations, with strength or flexibility. We each have our unique life circumstances.
Please turn off all cell phones and pagers. If for any reason you must leave a device on for emergencies, let the instructor know. You may then leave it on vibrate on a towel near you.
Please do not wear or use scented body products or perfumes. These can be distracting or harmful to others. As the body heats up the scents can become more powerful and many students have sensitivities or allergies to scents.
Please do not smoke right before class. It is recommended that you not smoke 15-30 minutes before class, since smoking can elevate both heart rate and breathing rate. Many students are very sensitive to cigarette smoke smell. |
