WORKSHOPS

Gabriel Halpern - Iyengar Yoga
October 1st and 2nd $50 per session
Friday, October 1 6:00-9:00 pm Neck and Shoulders
Gravity can have a devastating affect on our bodies over time. Lack of exercise, bad postural habits, and poorly designed work and home environments, all can lead to major health impacts on the neck and shoulders. It is common to see people with sagging, caved in chests, accompanied by rounded or hunched backs. All of this is unnecessary and reversible with a consistent application of yoga. Opening the frontal chest alone does wonders for restoring vitality and deep breathing. Add to that relaxing the back muscles and you will change the way you stand and appear to the world. Gabriel will show you what you can do to make your neck and shoulders feel better and increase their ability to flex, extend, side bend, and rotate around their axis. Open to all levels.
Saturday, October 2 1:00-4:00 pm Establishing a Personal Practice
To enjoy the benefits of yoga you have to develop a consistent, steady practice. If you are hesitant to practice, confused over what to do, or fear not doing it right, this workshop is for you. The problems of motivation, environment, sequencing, timings, props, and variations will all be discussed, taught, and practiced. You deserve the gift of an established personal practice. Open to all levels.
Gabriel Halpern holds a B.A. in Philosophy, an M.A. in Health Psychology, and is a full-time, certified instructor trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institutes in San Francisco and Pune, India. Gabriel has practiced since 1970 and gives workshops nationally. He is the founder and director of the Yoga Circle in Chicago, IL since 1985. For the past nineteen years he has also been a core faculty member at De Paul University. Gabriel knows first hand what it is to live with pain and bounce back with zest for life. Suffering from a broken vertebra at age 15, his life journey has been dedicated to the pursuit of yoga and its therapeutic applications. Owing to the direct influence of BKS Iyengar and 38 years of personal practice, Gabriel has learned the difference between actual and perceived limitations, knowledge he passes along to those who study with him. Gabriel's teaching is all that is yoga: zeal in practice, science, art form, lifestyle, and mystical mentoring.
